Among many designs for Sashiko, one of my favorite is “Kamon – Japanese Family Crest.” The photo called “Take ni Suzume – Banboo and sparrow” is the Kamon for Samurai general, Date Masamune, who is a well-known one of the most fashionable Samurai in its history. While Samurais were around, Japan had national isolation. They didn’t import cultures from outside of Japan. The design, and also hand-crafting culture, developed while the national isolation describes the Japanese culture that I would like to pass down. I am learning a lot from the history of Japan to our future design.

素敵だなぁと思う刺し子の一つに、家紋を刺した刺し子があります。これまた素敵だなぁと思っている伊達政宗公の家紋、「竹に雀」を刺し子したものです。相当昔の刺し子。先日、@UpcycleStitches でもご紹介したこの写真ですが、写真に撮る為に手元に出してみてみると、本当に素敵だなぁと思って再度紹介です。売れなかったら、額に入れて飾ってみようかしらん。
