Sashiko and Boro. You may ask for the categorization for each word. Well, personally, I think Sashiko and Boro are on the same timeline. Roughly summarizing: “Repeating Sashiko stitching to mend & strengthen the fabric end up with Boro.”

Since it is on the same line, there is a gray zone between Sashiko (beginning to process) and Boro (process to result as the ending). In this society, we tend to desire to define the piece in the gray zone. Personally, I prefer people just enjoying it instead of making what is what (of course, proper understanding and respect to the original culture would be appreciated.) However, when I explain the items like on the photo in English, I use the wording (categorizing) “Boro inspired” and “To Be Boro”. I rarely to do in Japanese. The language is strongly influenced by the culture, so it is very challenging for me to express what I think in Japanese mind in the English language. I will, of course, keep and enjoy this challenging journey. ☆
刺し子と襤褸……と、何気に比較されることがありますが、個人的には、刺し子も襤褸も同じ線の上に存在すると思っています。凄く雑な纏めになるけれど、「布の補強（補修）の為の刺し子を繰り返した結果が襤褸」なんだろうなと。同一線上にあるので、刺し子（始め）と襤褸（終わり）の間には、”分類分けされないもの”が存在するわけです。そういうものに名前をつけたがるのが現代ですが、別に名前つけずに愉しめば良いんじゃないかなぁと、そんな風に思いながら、でも英語圏で表現する際には、”襤褸を摸倣したパッチワーク”とかって名前になるんですよねぇ。言語って文化をが土台にあるから、ホント大変。
