We say, “Sashiko is not about making one perfect stitch, it is about moving the needle as you feel, and it therefore, the stitches reflect who you are.” This small & fine Sashiko stitching makes me realize I prefer the stitches I can just let it run instead of “aiming” to make it as small as possible. Well, it is also important to get out from the comfortable zone. So here it is. I am in a process of learning and improving. Regardless, after 1 hour of stitching, I enjoy the stitching after all. There isn’t right or wrong in Sashiko, only “enjoyable” Sashiko. ☆

The purpose of me keep sharing the Sashiko photos is not to define what is good

The purpose of me keep sharing the Sashiko photos is not to define what is good or bad. It is to remind us of the beauty of hand-stitching, and “caring” for the others. The fabric has both “front” and “back” of the stitching, yet it isn’t us who define what…

A Bag (Traditional Rice Bag Style) with Patchworked fabric by Keiko. By patching small pieces of fabric, the bag become like a abstract art. One of Keiko’s speciality. 2017-07-14 12:51:56 Source

I receive many questions regarding a book (books) to learn Sashiko. For the technique & skill of Sashiko, I don’t know a book describing on what I try to share in non-Japanese language. For Sashiko’s history and story, I don’t know a book focused on the cultural side of Sashiko…

These are reassuring words. My stitches are never very even or perfect when I work on my jeans. The process is peaceful & enjoyable. In the end the work has it’s own full effect, not just a collection of flawed stitches.

@tbeckett Thank you for the comment. It is one of the message I would like to share throughout Sashiko. It isn’t about being “perfect” or even “Good”. The peaceful & enjoyable process is the core of Sashiko. I even feel Sashiko is the word for the process, not the result.
    Keep enjoying Sashiko!
