Each stitch is just “stitch” – a part of cotton threads led by needles going up and down the fabric. The accumulation of these “just stitches” will create beautiful patterns. At the same time, the beautiful pattern at the end of stitching isn’t the end of Sashiko – In fact, it is the beginning of its Sashiko. The fabric with Sashiko will have many roles in its life. They may become part of a jacket. They may be used to warm someone. It may help other fabrics to be strong once again. Wherever it goes, it will have a long life. The main purpose of Sashiko is(was) for us to keep using the fabric we stitch on.

“Just Stitches” are a part of threads. Therefore, it is extremely important to understand the threads we are using. All threads are good… but they have their own purpose. As we have our own place to shine, the threads have their best place to be the very best. It is my goal (and even mission) to preserve the Thread we are using. Now, many Sashiko “Artists” are focusing on how it looks. It is a very important part of Sashiko – but, Sashiko is more than that as I explained above. Our Sashiko Threads are costly in comparison to others (although I think it is reasonable when we compare the “amount” of threads). It is the cost for decades after stitching – not only for the moment of stitching.

I cannot lose something so valuable because of the ignorance in the bigger trend. Your choice will be the greatest support for this Cultural Sustainability. All I want is to continue the Sashiko we have been practicing.
