I had such a great time in Brooklyn last weekend for the Sashiko Workshops. As always, I am a bit burned out after the big matters to me. This time, I took days off to focus on recovery first.
@loopoftheloom displayed our item so nicely. I feel like our Sashiko was in the museum, with white walls & spotlights. It is, one day, my dream to have an exhibition for our Sashiko. It would be perfect if the exhibition is something the visitors can feel and touch the actual Sashiko’s Stitching
☆
I say that Sashiko isn’t an Art Form because of its cultural significance as Ordinary. When a maker (or a teacher) focuses on the “Art” too much in Sashiko, the practice & result can be simplified & twisted. However, it doesn’t mean that Sashiko will never be the Art Form. It can be – and I hope it will be by those hands who (try to) acknowledge the Sashiko Japanese have been stitching.
☆
After 8 years of teaching in Sashiko, I am confident that I can pass down the Sashiko we practice. All of the stitching starts with [Core & Essence]. No matter how many years of experience a stitcher has, it is the start & the completion of my teaching. Many was surprised, and many will be surprised how different our Sashiko is from the Sashiko trend introduced by those who superficially perceive Sashiko (Cherry Pick Sashiko). I do not have any more workshops planned for 2024, but Online Class is available. I will talk about my plan on the Sashiko Live Streaming on Thursday (8/8) at 9 pm EST – the usual time & place on Youtube.

Almost 5 years ago, when I received the first request to offer the Sashiko Workshop, I had no idea what I could teach. Ever since, “teaching” became the main focus of my challenges. As I always say, teaching comes with big responsibility – because students there need to somewhat trust…

I learned that “being nice” is a fundamental part of relationships in the US. I understand it is important, but here, in this account, please be nice to yourself first. You don’t have to be nice to anyone, but try to be kind. I much prefer “learn with pain” than…

Finally… I uploaded the blog entry about “Is Sashiko Art?”. Please forgive my lousy English. It has been 12 years since I had written something like this long (after BA in university and had not used English much after that). ☆ The artcile became a good summary of what I…

The Core workshop experience last Saturday was wonderful, thank you! Working on my practice piece a little every day. Still tensing my shoulders but catch myself sooner.

Thank you for teaching and creating an environment for people to learn.
    I had an amazing weekend!

I hope I will not break another needle for a very long time.

I plan on participating in Hari-Kuyō. Will look out for your reminder post.
