Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

*

At the end of 2015, I uploaded the first video about Sashiko & its Unshin on You

atsushijp, 2024年8月27日

At the end of 2015, I uploaded the first video about Sashiko & its Unshin on Youtube. Back then, I was quite pessimistic about the future of Sashiko, and therefore, I decided to leave the video as “Archive” for someone who may be interested in Sashiko later on. For that, I have accomplished my mission as we can find so many “Sashiko & Its Unshin” videos on many SNS platforms. The word “Unshin” and similar tools will remain in the future. However, sadly, the “teaching” videos of Unshin on SNS are filtered by their convenience & value system – and it is becoming something foreign, similar yet different.

I have been offering unedited & unmodified Sashiko Stitching on Live Streaming for 7 years or so. The goal of my sharing is to preserve the Culture of Sashiko done by Japanese Sashiko Artisans. “Preservation” means the “Inclusion” of as many Sashiko Artisans as possible. Therefore, I say, “Copy it” – instead of restricting the ideas & videos for one’s profit. I offer weekly Live Streaming because I want them (you) to copy it. I just wish, when they copy it, I want them to copy it throughout – not only a piece of information & modify it to meet their convenience & profit (We can probably call it “Cherry Picking”?)
☆
Sashiko is more than a Trend & Design. All I ask is to acknowledge the stories behind. When one continues watching my Live Streaming & Youtube Videos, they would be able to “receive it”. However, it may take years & they may experience unnecessary detours. Therefore, I offer Sashiko Classes to navigate them to have a “Good Start with Good Preparation” to start climbing the beautiful mountains. I won’t change – I hope that the trend will change to be more mindful, careful & respectful.

I shared my “favorite Sashiko Pattern” in the previous Live Streaming, then I asked Keiko about it. Here it is. The combination of Japanese traditional pattern make it so unique and beautiful 😀 — 前回のインスタライブで触れた、「好きな刺し子柄」。恵子さんに聞いたら、この写真が送られてきました。やっぱり枠に入らない感じが恵子さんらしい。良い柄の合わせです。 — 2018-06-24 19:21:56 Source

One of these days, I hope to sit down and watch one of your videos. Such a valuable and needed resource in the slow stitching world.
