I appreciate many complimenting this Jacket as “Art”. It takes months (or even close to a year) to make one Jacket. All stitched by hands. Yes, this can be Art with its extraordinary character. However, it is the best when someone can actually “use” it. For that, although I keep them more like samples, it is better for someone to have it & keep using/wearing it.
☆
The fabric is quite durable by itself. With very specific Sashiko Threads with some specific technique/wisdom, this jacket is very strong. It can last years. Durability is one of the core principles of Sashiko. For some who actually needed to stitch, how long the fabric can last would be more important than how beautiful it was.
☆
Most of us, who live in 2024, have choices on what we wear. It is perfectly fine to focus on how it looks. Some may call their stitching Sashiko only from the aesthetic perspective. On the other hand, however, I would like to keep trying to preserve this Cultural Sustainability. Sashiko Threads Matters not only how the result looks – Sashiko Threads Continuously being the big matters when they use the fabric with Sashiko Patterns. Sashiko has a lot of wisdom from the Japanese Old Days.

In between writing Sashiko Story, arranging (online) gathering, preparing the Sashiko Workshops, we made this kind of “Bookmarks” with leftover thread & scrap fabrics for this new year. It is indeed true that Sashiko is “stitching” to recycle the materials. It is very much against throwing away the thread/fabric we…

“Any Recommendations to start learning Sashiko?” ever since I started teaching Sashiko, I have received this question so many times. The best recommendation is the Sashiko Class I offer – [Core & Essence], either In-Person or Online. It will give a great package of technique & mindset to start enjoying…
