I am enjoying the morning after a pretty intensive 3 days of teaching the Sashiko we practice. It was another great opportunity to share the Sashiko we practice, the Sashiko excluded from the mainstream. On the first day, many show their confusion, anxiety, and even frustration for the new items to learn to be able to stitch like us. At the end of the workshop, they come to me with smiles while leaving good reviews. After 7 years of experience in teaching Sashiko, I am now quite confident in what I can offer.

I used to say that the participants do not need to worry about “bad habits” when it comes to learning. It is still true… but as the Sashiko becomes so popular, I find some “mindset” one can learn from other Sashiko Teachers as obstacles. If you are serious in learning Sashiko, please consider taking it – my workshop isn’t the end of learning – I consider it as the beginning of learning Sashiko. The Online Sashiko Class goes the same – (Over Online, I will continuously support as I only meet you online as a Live Session).

無事、今回も3日間の刺し子を伝える役目を果たすことができました。私のお手本を初日の最初に紹介し、「そんなんできるようになるの？」という困惑や不安、時には怒りや失笑の表情が、徐々に苦しみながらも、最終日には「簡単やん」というような表情でリズムに乗りながら針を動かしているのを見ると、刺し子を教えることの意義を感じます。運針が必ずしも必須なわけではないし、リズムに乗らない刺し子もあって良いとは思うのですが、せっかく刺し子をするのであれば「選択肢」を増やして、楽しめる刺し子の幅を広げてもらえたらなと思うのです。できないことを嘘で塗り固めて「それは刺し子じゃない」というような教えている人からは学びは得られません。教えることに真摯に向き合っている人は、否定することはほぼありません。それは、「教えられること」と「教えられないこと」の境界線がはっきりしていて、「教えられないから他で学んでください」と自分の範囲内で最大限の教えを発揮するからです。

我ながら、7年も刺し子を教えていると、教えるのが上手になったなぁと思うのです。最初の段階で、苦しむ人は沢山いらっしゃいます。苦しむ生徒さんに「私を信じて数時間、あるいは一日だけ苦しいとは思うけど付き合ってほしい」と自信を持って伝えられるのは、その苦しみの結果に必ず誰でもできるようになるからという信念と自信があるからなんでしょうね。この3日で私が教えられることはほぼ終わり、あとは「一緒に刺し子を楽しみ学ぶ」というスタート地点になります。それは日本語での運針会も一緒です。

事業拡大や利益最大化が目的ではない為、私のしていることの拡散は遅いです。レバレッジは効かせてないのでね。ただ、その分、丁寧にご縁を頂ける方と一緒に刺し子を築いていけると思っています。今週また木曜日に配信します。是非、遊びに来てください。
