I have been enjoying Sashiko on Furoshiki Wrapping Cloth. This is the 3rd one. You can find the In-Progress & Completed Pieces on @SashikoStory

Sashiko Threads are a very important factor in Sashiko. When a goal for the Sashiko is merely “how it looks” and “following the lines/dots prepared on the fabric”, they may use “whatever” threads for Sashiko. However, when it comes to “respecting” the practice & philosophy of Sashiko, we become very particular about the Thread. Including “how it looks”, the Sashiko thread we use makes a significant difference.
☆
Last few years, behind the big trend of Sashiko globally, many things have changed. One of the changes I feared the most was the possible loss of these Threads. We fortunately secured the threads we love, enjoy, and stitch everyday. However, the thread we use is no longer widely available even in Japan. It is my goal, though, to make it more “widely” available again somehow. I don’t know how… but I believe it is very important to keep its sustainability, from both cultural perspective & artisans/artists perspective.
☆
The amount is limited, but they are available in the U.S. as well via our Online Store. There are very few stores carrying this thread – simply because there aren’t big enough production any longer. I will not give up on this – and your choice for our Sashiko Thread will make a significant difference toward the future of our Sashiko. It is a large skein – it makes a lot of difference, especially when you “understand what Sashiko really is”.
☆
*You can stitch 4~6 Furoshiki with 15 colors of Sashiko Thread (1 color each) – depends on how efficient you would use it.

Thank you for waiting for almost a year. Finally, the Kakishibu Dye Sashiko Thread, the 2019 Collection, is ready to launch with 5 beautiful color-shades choices. In this batch, we tried to reduce the luster to have matte and more “Down-to-earth” color. I like it very much (although I cannot…

Sharing the stories about Sashiko we have been practicing became my main activity (@SashikoStory). In order to be a stone in the current trend (by archiving many stories), I prioritize writing stories in English more than anything. At the same time, I also work on the actual process of “preserving”…

Since I started teaching Sashiko in 2017, I have received a lot of feedback: “I would like to go to Japan with you, Atsushi!”. It is very flattering to hear that kind of compliment – they like the Sashiko I had shared & they are more interested in Japan (Japanese…
