For those who are in the U.S., I hope you had a great Thanksgiving week. I had a great time with my family – just our “Nuclear Family” as 4 of us including Cat. I tried not to be on SNS, including here. I fulfilled several orders (Thanks!!), but I try to be away from the PC as well to try to make them laugh as much as possible. Laughter is important. It is my goal to make them laugh at least once a day… and for these last 5 days, I accomplished big time, including me laughing, too.
☆
Happiness is something to realize, not to achieve or win over. It took ⅘ of my life to learn it. It is the same amount of years for me to understand the [Core & Essence] of Sashiko although I had been spending time with Sashiko my entire time. The trend is simplifying what Sashiko is focusing on “Design” and “Technique”. Yes, they are both important part of enjoying Sashiko – but it doesn’t make one’s stitching Sashiko by only focusing on Design & Technique. We can find similar designs with different names, and we can probably find almost identical techniques with another name on it. Simplification is not only harmful to other cultures, but also limiting oneself to fully enjoy the cultural practice – here Sashiko. I hope that Sashiko is there for you to realize the happiness, instead of trying to achieve the happiness by using the word “Sashiko”.

“Wow. It is so beautiful. I cannot believe it is all hand-stitched”. Receiving feedback like this is a goal of our Sashiko. We are a duo of a mother & her son. Keiko remains the same, simply stitching & producing “the Sashiko” she admires. Her passion is toward inner herself…

Many told us that our Sashiko is “Traditional”. We often use the word “Traditional” in contrast to “Modern (Contemporary)”. I have another perspective on “Tradition”. It is an “accumulation” of people’s knowledge, wisdom and story. I am sharing all of “my tradition” so that we can pass down the Sashiko…

Sashiko can be lonely work – merely stitching. I used to feel serious loneliness in a family business – I felt as if no one cared about Sashiko (with looking at the steep decline in financial reports). ☆ After losing a lot of things in 2013, I now realize that…

Straight stitch on denim, indigo cotton. My favorite. I could straight stitch all day. This photo is absolutely mesmerizing.
