Today in 39 years ago, I met her for the first time (probably) at my birth. I have not been very nice to her, especially in my youth. I even hated her for being a part of my life. I looked at her as lame, and all I did in my youth was to cut the given fatal bond. Regardless of my disrespect, she was there all the time. She helped me a number of times when I was in difficulties. Without her, I wouldn’t have met so many mentors & friends who gave me the life I live today. I am now committed to living with her throughout my life, and her name is “Sashiko”.

“Sashiko is a form of hand-stitching developed in Japan” – this is the only definition I can give you here. Of course, Sashiko is “More” than this definition. Unlike those who can easily define the rules (Right and Wrong) in Sashiko without even being able to read Japanese, I cannot define “the Sashiko” because it may leave someone behind in this Stitchery. Please acknowledge that the majority of people who are defining what Sashiko is are non-Japanese, and you may be learning their interpretation instead of “what Sashiko actually is”. This account exists to share stories to illustrate the rough form – instead of spoon-feed the easy answers for someone’s convenience.

20 years ago, when I came to the US for the first time as a student, I didn’t think of myself doing Sashiko on my 39th birthday. I have taken so many detours, and I have failed in so many ways until I realize what Sashiko really can be. I may take more detours, and I will probably fail more… but I cannot let her – Sashiko – fail. Sashiko is more than a trend, and more than what you can learn in English today. Please learn Sashiko from us instead of someone who uses it for profit & attention. I am here to share Sashiko Stories.

An attendee (student) of Atsushi’s Sashiko workshop in NYC traveled Japan and visited Keiko. She offered a special workshop to make yJapanese Rice Bag with Boro & Vintage Fabric in her house. We are happy that she and her friend enjoyed it. 2017-08-20 23:22:34 Source

“Bread Line”. Thanks to the comments, I learned the new word. I agree with many comments in the previous post. Thank you. A Life-Work balance is important. Money itself won’t bring us happiness. I did not write that money represents success. I never say that Money measure the value of…
