I believe yesterday’s Sashiko Live Streaming (on 7/14) was quite interesting. I apologize for the first 15 min of hassle of setting up the mic, but toward the end I feel I articulated how I would reach the frustration (or pain) when I see someone disrespectful. I believe I explained what I mean by “disrespectful”. I appreciate all of the viewers, especially those who were there yesterday & navitaged my stories with comments. “Sashiko Story” is what I offer. However, they aren’t much like “Fable” or “Fiction”. It is more like “Memories” and the story-line hasn’t been predetermined. A series of unlimited stories based on my culture that I grew up with – which is Sashiko.
☆
Once, this account was a place to “discuss” about Sashiko. Among many pleasant comments, I had received nasty & painful comments. You may remember it if you follow this for a few years. Anyhow, it ended slowly because I strongly stated this is not a place to share their “opinion” about Sashiko, and I am not sharing my “opinion” here: They are stories. Not an opinion to decide what is right or wrong. Since I do not pay attention to those harassing comments, they stop commenting here. That’s great. At the same time, I also enjoy reading any comments here. I just don’t reply – I don’t reply with emotionless Emoji… I read them and learn from the comments. Youtube Live Streaming is actually a place to “share opinion” along with the story I share.
☆
Teaching comes with responsibility. Talking/Sharing “On behalf” comes with being less responsible, but very influential. I am not denying everyone who teaches Sashiko – I am fighting back against the usage of the word “Sashiko” to market their service without proper respect. Sashiko isn’t a marketing term. When they use it, then it become a form of Cultural Appropriation (Detail in the Live).

I respect & admire “Artist”. “Art” makes us human. It is important to appreciate Art and Artist. One can express themselves throughout the art. As you know already, I have a pretty open mindset toward Cultural Appropriation in Sashiko (Please read my website). ☆ What I am concerned about is…

I appreciate greately the firmness with which you state yourself. With the world becoming very easy to access and people wanting to cash on the ‘trends’, culture appropriation is happening across traditional practices and belief systems. Yog, Nirvan, etc., are what we have been struggling with. While it is an uphill task to get across the core value system behind not only Shashiko but all the other traditional craft forms, the lone voice is imp. It shall be and must be heard.
