To balance myself, I try to have more time to stitch in 2022. I have a dream that many craftsmen also have: to make a living just by “making”: which is quite challenging for me in Sashiko. After all, this account @UpcycleStitch is for “business activities’ ‘, which requires the circulation of money. I wonder, though, what is “sustainable business plan” for those who craft something by hand. It takes many hours to make one, yet the pricing will not be as high as the other “Art”. No one is going to pay $100,000 for one denim with a lot of stitching, even if it is covered by layers of fabric & stitches. After all, it is “fabric”, in both positive & negative ways.
☆
Just out of curiosity. How much would be a reasonable commission fee to stitch a whole denim like this? I occasionally receive a request to do so in another account @SashikoStory, but I usually do not take the request since their offer tend to be way below the minimum wage. I know it isn’t something we can calculate based on “hourly wage”, but our time is limited, and we need to make ends meet somehow.
☆
“Production on a large scale in assembly lines where the labor is low”. This is how today’s wealth is achieved. It is the fundamental of what we all do everyday – Eat, Live, Wear, even uploading this photo now with a Smartphone. I hope, however, it doesn’t mean that the hand-made item is less valued or forgotten. While sharing something very important in @SashikoStory, I will try to find the balance here for “Sashiko & Business”

I think a reasonable amount for a jeans like this would be around €1500-€2000, which I could never afford. When I’m asked to do a handembroidered repair, many times people find it too expensive, even when I explain the hours (charging only €1-€2 per hour). I’m probably undercharging you as well with my estimate, I’m sorry.
