“How do you stitch so fast?”, “How come your stitches are so even?”, “It must have taken so many months to make the Jacket. I don’t have that much time”.
☆
I receive many questions – sometimes for advice, sometimes with disappointment of their giving up. Not so often, but some comment our stitches are intimidating. I understand many want to stitch faster, more even, more beautifully, more, more enjoyable. I have answers to all of the questions/requests above. Anyone, everyone, can do it when they learn Sashiko with appropriate Form, Posture, and “Kata”. (“Kata” often comes with an appropriate mindset as well). I am not saying one must learn our Kata to enjoy Sashiko. However, I am now confident that one can stitch like we do, more even, more fun and much faster, by learning the Unshin, the form of Sashiko stitching with our Form.

It isn’t complicated at all. It just requires my personal attention because everyone has different hands, experience, mindset, goals, preference, and spirit. In-person Sashiko Workshop & Online Sashiko Class isn’t just an experience for you to enjoy Sashiko. It is the life-long Learning Opportunity. I will be in the NYC Area for July 9th & 10th, then in Berkeley CA on July 23rd to 26th, for the In-person Sashiko Workshops! I hope to meet/see you there, to share the Sashiko I speak up, the Sashiko we have been practicing, and the Sashiko I would like to pass down to the next generation.

Love it. ❤️ stiching and the Song 😍
I am very much enjoying the cultural education that accompanies your beautiful stitching. I have used sashiko-like techniques for repair and embellishment and would never presume to call my efforts shashiko or boro. They are, however, inspired by this handstitching legacy artform. Thank you for taking the time to share not only the method of creation and exquisite finished work, but also the heritage underpinning, supporting and continuing with your work.
Inspiring ❤️👏
👏👏👏👏
que maravilha!!!!👏👏👏
@nicolai_og_co 🙌
Harika❤️👏
I finally started a project with lots of straight lines, so I’m taking this opportunity to focus more on unshin. I’m still new to it so I’m slower, and there’s still things I’m figuring out, but overall I’m glad for it. My stitches are not perfectly even but that’s okay, because you don’t really notice in the context of a larger piece. Like you say, I think it’s good to focus on unshin technique early on because you will only get better the more you practice.
Such wonderful opportunities. I will try and join you online since the cost of traveling for me is too high
C’est magnifique!
❤️👏👏👏👏
woah that’s great! i’d love to come by!
Your work is wonderful!
It would be fun to take a class from you in the future, perhaps at Austin’s own unique @thepapercraftpantry where they offer a variety of classes?
