Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

I am taking my time off to paint several walls in our house. This was my first time painting the house wall by myself. I learned that the preparation takes 10 times more time & energy than actual painting – and the outcome becomes less than ideal when I neglect some steps. Sashiko has, of course, the similarity – the Sashiko artisan who can prepare the patterns nicely & beautifully are usually a good stitcher as well.

I used a reusable drop-cloth instead of a cheap plastic disposable one. Well, a drop-cloth isn’t high quality, and I made a rip when I moved my ladder. The purpose of this cloth is to protect the floor from paint spilling – it does what I have to do. At the same time, the rip reminded me of Sashiko (while taking time off), and I decided to try a few lines of stitching. Umm. Not bad. One may practice Unshin with drop-clothes with less expense (Doable, but not ideal). I won’t take my time off completely, because Sashiko is not only my work (& I am workaholic), but it is my life that I decided to live with. Don’t paint over What Sashiko Can be over someone’s convenience or profit.

Sashiko was an ordinary practice of Japanese people who needed “stitching”. Therefore, “anyone” can enjoy the Sashiko. I teach Sashiko with sincere hope that the students will be “better” than me in terms of stitching itself. After 3 years of teaching, my hope is now becoming confidence. Once “Unshin” in…

The first Sashiko in 6 days…? I cannot express how relaxed I felt while stitching. Although there are no scientific references, I can be certain that Sashiko rhythmical stitching is very good to calm down. An appropriate posture (so no body pain), hand-movement (so no need to focus the stitch…

Good day and Bad day. Uplifting mood and feeling of depression. Shine and Rain. We all have different reasons to act differently everyday. However, there is one thing I keep it in my mind – I will not change how I react to whom based on what they may have…
