9 Japanese Geometric Patterns that Keiko chose to make a “Jacket”. This fabric can be used to make a Cushion and a Tapestry like yesterday’s post. It is extremely important to learn how to prepare the patterns on the fabric by yourself. At the same time, however, it is very time-consuming to do so. When we have a budget & ideas to make a big Sashiko item, we try to make a “Pattern Pre-printed Sashiko Fabric”. So far, we have made 3 pieces each year, 2019, 2020, and 2021. The fabric is the same Indigo Dye Cotton Fabric, the one we always use. The Ink is water-based, so it will be washed away in the process of Mizutoushi. Since some patterns can be challenging, I wouldn’t recommend it for the Sashiko beginner… but if one knows Unshin by watching our videos or taking Atsushi’s Class, this will be a Joyful project & very good practice to improve the skill. (It is available on @UpcycleStitches website. I will share a link on “Instagram Story”).

☆

It is important to share what each pattern is. Some patterns have meaning. The name has its background. I share the name here in the Reel. If you are interested in the meaning behind them, please use the name to research that later. Also, I am preparing a specific article about the pattern name & meaning behind it on Patreon Page. If you have a surplus in your monthly budget, it would be very much appreciated to have your support on Patreon.

“Tradition” is a tricky word. As much as I like the traditional look of Sashiko, my message is “to respect” the tradition – My message is NOT limiting the creativity by tradition. Words are not enough because we read what we want to read. What I am writing here is…

I often talk about the “Past” and “Future” of Sashiko. I hope that “Present” will function as a bridge, and “how to bridge Past to Future” is to acknowledge. 13 years ago, I found the reason for the Sashiko I received. Thanks to it, I am here to share the…
