I apologize for those who left the comments on last night’s Sashiko Live Streaming in English. The Web Browser didn’t function properly, and my brain was completely fried to even check if there were any comments. So, I kept talking and talking without answering any comments. I believe there are several important points in Yesterday’s Live Streaming. I hope you would have a chance to watch the archive to understand what Sashiko really is for me. I am mumbling, but it is my honest story there.
☆
Whenever I write about “Cultural Appropriation”, I receive many comments, both nice & nasty. One of the most significant reactions is about the way to “practice Sashiko” with respect. They worry about C/A, and therefore they do not stitch. This hesitation is NOT what I have been sharing here. Please do enjoy Sashiko with as little (or even no) knowledge as you have. It doesn’t create any pain. The source of pain is the lack of acknowledgement, which is “Intentional Ignorance” and “Indifference”. Believe it or not, there are accounts which “block” my stories here. They find the stories uncomfortable, or worse “inconvenient”, and for their purpose, they “decided” not to take in. I do respect those who have different ideas yet keep listening to the stories I share. Unfortunately, “Intentional Ignorance” and “Indifference” can happen, and it often happens by the people with privilege. I am there, too.
☆
If you worry about C/A in Sashiko, don’t worry too much. If you think you know all about Sashiko & find my stories uncomfortable or inconvenient, and decided to “shut” it, then it is Cultural Appropriation to me since they are changing my culture intentionally. My message is this simple – and the longer stories go on the more wisdom I can share.

Exactly half of Shippou is done. It is rare to see the results of just circles as I often stitch on non-rectangle shaped fabrics (like Denim Pants). When one goes along the winding curves, while adding threads when it runs out, we can reach the result of “Shippou”. ☆ In…

Just out of curiosity. Does this also come from a cultural difference? Please read below. ☆ If I were to ask to talk (in public) about a topic that I am not familiar with, I would hesitate and decline, or at least ask for someone to be a supervisor. It…

I appreciate your wisdom and I honor the culture. I am new to sashiko and I hope to learn and honor the tradition.
