Happy I hope you enjoy stitching today with her. When it comes to stitching, we don’t need to be physically next to each other. The fabric, needle & thread become like an old telephone to communicate to them – not vivid and clear as the Internet Video chat, but something warm to understand that you aren’t alone – no matter what happens – Mother is always there for you.
☆
If you are lucky to be with her today, tell her your feelings. If not, I would communicate with her via stitching after “messaging” her. Stitching/Sashiko isn’t so difficult – it doesn’t require much experience or massive tools to make it happen. Therefore, I want you to learn the stories around Sashiko – so that you will be able to feel the “communication via fabric” with Japanese wisdom. Our mothers can be “nagging” or “micromanaging” – always telling us what to do – or not to do. A mother can be a nightmare, but we must remember they appreciate just who we are. They may not be the perfect one, but they always accept us who are also not perfect. Sashiko is the same. Sashiko appreciates just who we are, and Sashiko always accepts what we do, not only we appreciate Sashiko and how stitches look. Therefore, I want you to find your own Sashiko instead of someone’s interpretation or definition for Instant Gratification. I am sharing/teaching how we can do that here and there. No one can/should define the love of/to the mothers, and I do not define what is the “right/wrong” Sashiko for anyone.

We, as newbies in “privilege”, have to understand that “privilege” and “handicap/disadvantage” are not the same. I am NOT minimizing the hard work of people with difficulty. However, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t privileged. Also, privilege isn’t simple math. It doesn’t offset “have” and “don’t have”. Therefore, even in…

Many ask me, “How can you make stitches so even?”. My answer is, “because I am not trying to”. There are many reasons for me sharing the Sashiko. I introduced 4 main reasons why it is important to learn posture instead of just “technique”. One of the Sashiko Cores is…
