Among so many perspectives of interpretations of “what Sashiko is”, I believe we all can agree on one thing: Sashiko is a Japanese term for a stitchery practice done (has being done) in Japan. Therefore, I am here to keep sharing the “Sashiko Story” based on Japanese culture.
☆
In the past few years of me investing so much time in sharing Sashiko, I have received quite many nasty comments including those calling me “a destroyer of human creativity” and “arrogant(deluded)”. (and 100 times more nice & appreciative comments, so I am still here. Thank you). It is so interesting that I have NEVER had those comments in Japanese. Zero. A criticism can lead us to have arguments, and I welcome that unless it is valid. However, when it comes to nasty arguments, I really wonder why I have to protect myself in English. They try to argue with us about Sashiko and Japanese culture in English as if they know better than anyone. They expect us to use their language to protect our culture. It is strange.

As I keep saying, there is no need to learn Japanese to enjoy Sashiko practice. Again, I am here to share Stories in English so that anyone can enjoy it. However, there are some words which cannot be translated or defined in one paragraph. I wish I could, but it requires a number of stories. That’s exactly what I am doing now. Please realize how “bizarre” it is to see non-Japanese people defining what Sashiko is as an instant answer in their language while I say only definitions I can share is mine, and I want you to try to define what Sashiko is after reading stories. Sashiko is easy, but not shallow.

Stay true to who you are.
Sashiko is so beautiful and magical, thank you for sharing. I very much enjoy reading your posts 🤍✨
I hate people who presume to tell me what my cultural heritage is or is not from their outside perspective
Stay strong.
刺し子の仕事ありがとうございます
I don’t yet know much of the history of Sashiko but as an art form I’m honoured to be able to admire your pictures which have inspired me to start stitching. I’ll learn as I go. Thank you for sharing your joy. ✨🙏🏼✨

Sashiko çok ilgimi çekiyordu .El sanatlarını çok seviyorum. Özellikle yapılan her tiürlü nakışın doğuşunu nesilden nesile geçiş hikayelerini merak ediyorum. Ben “tutku” derdim.Harikasınız ☘️🌾☮️🦋
