In the previous post, I may have caused a misunderstanding of “Atsushi Needs to Look at the Faces to offer a better workshop experience”, and therefore Online Class may be less ideal. This isn’t true. I just need a few movements to identify how I can help. For example, body posture & facial expression in In-person workshop, and hand-movement in camera & movement for Online Class (Live Sessions). After spending so much energy & time in both forms of Sashiko Classes, I may say that I am the best at teaching Sashiko we practice.
☆
Many who come to my Sashiko classes are already experienced stitchers. They practice other forms of stitchery and hope to “add” Sashiko to their skill set. They can stitch, and most likely, much better than me in terms of “controlling the needle”. “Sashiko is a stitching technique to make beautiful stitches” isn’t a wrong statement, but insufficient. My class shares what is “missing” and therefore, some experience the difficulty unexpectedly. It is sometimes difficult for them to say “I cannot do it” because of their experience. I would feel the same in the similar shoe. Therefore, I am there to support the unexpected difficulty. Once they learn the core of what I share, they will find their own answers & definition, instead of asking for someone’s definition or translation – and that’s what I offer.
☆
I am willing to travel anywhere if conditions meet. Online Sashiko Class is available for 2022 as well. It may be costly for a “stitching workshop”, but it isn’t just a “Let’s practice Sashiko together” workshop. It is a life-long skill/mind-set of enjoying Sashiko – and I am proud of not only myself but also those who learned from me & surpass me to be great Sashiko artisans.

I also patched a whole the bottom of jeans. 5 layers of fabric after all. My fingers hurt… but satisfied with the result. 2017-05-21 15:11:30 Source
