Boro isn’t the word for mending technique. When I say, Sashiko/Boro isn’t ___, some immediately ask “What is it then?”. The expectation that there is always instant and quick answers is already away from what Sashiko/Boro is. I am offering my own “on-going” definition, but I do not want you to be satisfied with someone’s filtered definition, including mine.

Another great Live Streaming on Thursday night. It makes me happy that what I have been sharing is penetrating into their expectations, slowly but surely. Instead of asking for Instant Gratification, I want you to read between lines. Instead of justifying oneself, I want you to find peace in between.

I asked a question in the Live Streaming: What is the most important essence in “Making Boro”. My answer is in the Live Streaming. One comment made me happy again, that they said, Boro isn’t the word for technique. It is the accumulation of “Story”. Yes. How many (much) stories can you get from this? Please do not excuse yourself with superficial “art” and “peace”. I welcome everyone to the world where there are no answers, and often, no definition, but with mutual understanding.

昨日の配信、ありがとうございました。楽しくて予定時間オーバーしつつ、最後は刺し子せずに語ってしまう等、配信の本質からはずれましたが、でも刺し子や襤褸の本質のお話には触れられたと思うので、満足しています。何よりめちゃくちゃ楽しかったし。

配信内でもお話したのですが、日本国内で日本語で刺し子をされていらっしゃる方（教えていらっしゃる方）の全員が先生だと思っています。そんな馬鹿なと思うかもしれませんが、でも「刺し子の本質は日常だ。襤褸の本質は使った結果だ。」と英語で叫んでいる以上、日本で当たり前に日常に刺し子をしていらっしゃる方々の思いには、必ず学ぶべきところがあると思っています。おべっかを使うわけでも謙っている訳でもなく、「日本での当たり前」を必死になって英語で伝えているのがこのアカウントな訳で。

刺し子が嫌いだったからこそ、ずーっと刺し子とは何かを考えてきました。沢山本を読んだし、哲学者みたいに考え続けてきました。僕からお話できることは沢山あるのですが、日本語で聞いてくださっている皆様の疑問や関心と混ぜ合わせてこそ、本当の「生きたお話」になるんだと思っています。是非、「刺し子ってなんだ？襤褸って何？」という疑問を持って配信に遊びに来て頂けたら嬉しいです。英語では「アホな質問するな」と言っていますが、日本語に限って言えば「どんな質問も意味がある質問」だと思っているので。
