I am re-arranging the presentation slides for the Sashiko Story Webinar this weekend (11/20 Sat. 9 pm ET). It was exactly 10 years ago when I visited them. Then, following that, I decided to stay there for a while. A lot of memories with so many stories.

In 2013, I stepped back a bit. In 2015, Keiko instead stepped in. I am so proud of her for sharing all of her wisdom & ideas with them even in her most difficult time in her life – the time she had to work part-time to pay her bills. The main-stream of Sashiko is now categorized as “Hobby”. It is great: at the same time, without knowing what is going on in Japan in Sashiko, the whole picture of Sashiko won’t be described. I will summarize their 10 years into one hour with as many stories as possible. I hope to see you there on Zoom (Please get a free ticket for sending the private link).

今週末に大槌刺し子についての、英語でのオンライン講演会を企画しています。皆様にご紹介する資料を作るにあたって、過去の写真や動画を整理しながら、様々な記憶に想いを巡らせています。僕がガッツリ関わったのが2011年と2012年。その後少し間が空いて、恵子さんがガッツリ関わりだしたのが2015年くらいから。今も継続されている事に心から尊敬をし、また継続して応援していけたらと思っています。

改めて思うのは、恵子さんの「凄さ」。無邪気さ故の愚直さ。刺し子を再開したばかりで、日々の生活費の為に喫茶店でバイトをするくらいの立ち位置だったのにも関わらず、誰かの為に動けるというのは本当に凄いことだなと。大槌刺し子に期待し、且つ形になってきたことの一つが、刺し手がみえる刺し子です。「何を作る」というのも大事ですが、「誰が（誰と）作る」という、人が見える刺し子こそが、刺し子を次に繋げられる方法だと信じているので、実際にそれを形にしている大槌刺し子には尊敬の念しかありません。いつも話しているように、刺し子を商売として捉えると、一気に課題が噴出してきます。利益を出すことが目的ながら刺し子は選ばない方が良い（笑）。ただ、大槌刺し子は利益だけを見ているわけじゃないのです（もちろん、利益はとんでもなく大事ですが）。

まだまだ上手に説明できない大槌刺し子ですが、今後も、日本語でもしっかりと情報発信していこうと思っています。
