The photo shown on the advertisement (on this post) is the “backside” of the “Boro-to-be” Sashiko Jacket. The Selvedge Magazine team picked it, and I am happy to share this beautiful photo. However, I want you to know that it is the “backside” of the Jacket, and it is supposed to be hidden in general. I understand you may have another opinion about which side should be the front, but it isn’t a matter of discussion. There are reasons why this side is “backside” and the hiding side of the Jacket.

The Japanese who practiced Sashiko out of necessity wouldn’t show this side of the jacket. The patches & backside of the jacket represented the culture of shame. As much as I would like to respect their feelings, I decided to share the stories & photos so that the culture will not be repainted by “someone’s” preference/convenience/ignorance. I hope I can share some of these stories in 400 seconds, and possibly the following presentation somewhere. Well… for the presentation, I am just repeating the message I have shared in this account for the last 600 days. If you are interested, there are more than 600 posts to read here.

Rhooo! Thank you !
The “hiding side” of the jacket tells the best part of the story of how this jacket was crafted. Thank you. As always, so thoughtful of you.
Så vackra
Backside and frontside 😍💎☺
Both sides are beautiful. The heavily patched side reveals more of the mystery and charm. Good to learn about the traditions and culture that Sashiko and Boro developed within.
I appreciate the information that you share. Japanese and Scottish culture take such different approaches that it can take some time to contemplate even simple ideas through this different perspective.
I would like to ask you one thing…why to use nice indigo dye blu fabric for the inside of the fabric wich no one can see? Why not use a non dyed one for the inside? If no one can see the inside why not use a plain fabric for the inside there is this specific filosofy or reason behind the choice of wich side show and wich hide? Thankyou for help me to undestand?
Amazing fabric
Personally I love the idea of the plainer less detailed side on the outside and the careful stitching and colours close to the body. Why do we need to always have clothes that are outwardly appealing to show off to others? This was very interesting to me, and what a wonderful idea to have all that hard work and careful skill kept close to the body in private!
Excellent explanation 👏👏😍
Beautiful, but one should call it the outside and the inside of the jacket- the backside is just the back, which isn’t shown here.
There is so much to learn. Thank you!

Such a beauty!
