I received a positive feedback to what I wrote on Patreon – about Mottainai and Sashiko. I have been writing long journals on Patreon where I can feel safer. It is my pleasure to share – and therefore, I want a reader to be serious & mindful. Patreon is a place for that. It is always good to receive a warm message to what I wrote. “Mottainai” is famous word for “recycle and reuse”, but it is more than that.

The wrongfulness in “Food on Boro” will be one of the longest journals…5 days passed, but not yet completed. I will probably shorten it for the public, then share the whole in Patreon. It is funny that I completed the article in Japanese a week ago… it explains the difficulty of describing “what is so different” in the 2nd language to the audience who may not be familiar with the culture I write about. This photo with Zouri slipper makes more sense in Boro… but there are more stories beyond “Boro isn’t clean” from Japnese folklore perspective.

Your support on Patreon is very much appreciated. While other Sashiko sellers make “kits” and get busy in advertising, I write to share what Sashiko really is. I have not published a book (yet – hopefully soon) because I want to keep writing what I want to (instead of what the market expects). I believe my days prove that I care “passing down the culture” more than anything… however, I have to make ends meet. Your support will help me to keep sharing. There are several articles available for free. Please check our Patreon page → https://www.patreon.com/sashiko

If you do write a book about it I’ll be very happy to buy it … such a pleasure to know and understand your culture ✨✨✨✨

As a potter, I was introduced to the concept of “Wabi Sabi” years ago. I always understood Wabi Sabi, Mottainai, Kintsugi and Boro to all be strongly rooted in animism and an appreciation of the spirit that imbues everything… no matter how commonplace. Because spirit exists in all things, everything must be properly cared for, must be preserved, must not be trivialized or wasted.
