Yes, it is all hand-stitched. The back side is still messy. About 15 hours of hand-stitching. Some people may think it is insane to hand-stitch for that long. Some may think how fast the stitching is done. For me, it was a series of stories – sharing my wisdom on Live & talking to myself off Live. I “personally” do not have any issue with the Sashiko Machine, but I simply prefer hand-stitching. I enjoy not only the result but also the stitching process itself. It is not about better or worse, or even right or wrong. It is just a matter of preference – I just want you to learn, though. Sashiko was originally developed as a form of hand-stitching, and the human added “machinery” after that. There is nothing wrong. I just want to share the stories.

I will just hang this fabric in the Garage door to block the Winter Cold Air. In order to make it heavy (because the cold air is heavier and avoid the air from beneath the door), I added some of the “about to be trashed Denim”. I didn’t plan much. I just wanted to be thick & heavy. A few layers of Denim waist parts are kind of impossible to hand-stitch with good patterns. So, I will keep adding the stitches one by one as necessary. I ask for respect in learning Japanese culture & “why’s”. There are reasons why we use the specific tools & supplies. However, it doesn’t mean that I do not like upcycling or recycling. The cost of this curtain is just the Sashiko thread, and I am very happy about it. (The white fabric was for the booth display. Since I do not plan any more pop-up shops planned & the fabric is quite dirty, I “reused” it).

10 years ago, I never thought that I would be laughing like this with my mother Keiko, while being close to Sashiko, in Japan. We had good moments before 2013, yet we also had enough difficult times. Now, it is even much better. We aren’t just 2 of us who…

Cherry Blossoms is one of my favorite tree… and wishing so much one day I can dye with it. Sashiko and Sakura. The house I grew up had a lot of Sakura trees in front. It reminds me all of my life with Sashiko. 2018-04-25 16:42:10 Source
