Most of what we do in Sashiko have reason behind – and we call them “Story”. We think(thought) the stories are somewhat “common sense” to many people, and therefore we didn’t realize how interesting the stories are for those who do not practice Sashiko, or for those who are not familiar with the Japanese culture/mindset.

Even in a small conversation with my friends who I thought shared a lot about Sashiko throughout a series of classes/workshops, they found my story so interesting as if they found something completely new. If what I had experienced in my childhood to youth is something that people want to hear, then I have almost endless stories to share.

Sashiko is a simple form of hand-stitching – however, Sashiko is more than just stitching. It is my goal to share everything I have received. One day, probably a publisher may find me. Until then, I will keep writing on Patreon (when I have time off from my child… ).

先日の英語での集まりで再認識したのですが、日本人にとっての当たり前って、本当に世界においては「不思議」な話であるようで。あたかも「神話」を聞いてくれるかのような集中力を頂く瞬間もあったり。神話て……まだ生きているっちゅーねん（笑）

でも、確かにそうなんです。現代社会は、効率と生産性、そして消費を中心に作られています。如何に効率よく物を作り、世の中の便利にして、消費を回し続けるかによって成り立っています。だから、2回目のワークショップに参加下さる際に、「指抜きは前回お渡ししているので、持ってきて下さいね」というのは、「不親切」として受け入れてくれない人もいます。ビジネスをしているのであれば、そこはお客様の満足度を一番に優先すべきだ（だから、上代を上げてもお客様負担になることはしない）と。結局、俺が譲らず（笑）、結局その人とは喧嘩別れみたいになっていますが、でもそこを曲げてしまうと、刺し子を伝える意味がないとすら思っているのです。紛失してしまうのは良いんです。誰でもミスはある。でも、物だけ与えて紛失するのを助長するようじゃ駄目なんですよ。刺し子の本当の美しさは、整った針目ではありません。その布に現れる人柄なんです。生き様なんです。これをどこまで伝えられるか。”自由なアート”なんていう軽い言葉で塗り固められたくない。
