My writing may be confusing. This is because (1) I am still learning English & (2) I try to structure the texts in Japanese first, then translate into English. (I think in English in my ordinary – and I switch my brain to the Japanese when I write in IG). I feel “I” should think in Japanese when I introduce my Japanese memory.
☆
There are 2 kinds of translating methods. (1) 直訳 – Direct translation – DT & (2) 意訳 – paraphrasing with filtering. DT creates “the perfect” translation. One day, AI will provide the world where we do not need to learn the 2nd language to communicate. However, it sometimes scrapes off something important – a cultural value of a message that cannot be translated so easily. My goal is to share & think together – not only convey the message from me to them. This is a bad idea in terms of “simple communication” which is necessary in advertising and marketing. I should be writing more simple & correct English if my goal is only to “tell” Sashiko. I hope I communicate that my goal is to pass down the culture. (Therefore, the articles on Patreon are SO LONG…) – the message is simple as the Sashiko stitches – but simple doesn’t mean shallow (require a lot of time). ☆

“Cultural Appropriation” is a sensitive & difficult issue to discuss. Whenever I talk about it, not only do I lose many followers here, but also I receive pretty angry comments. Some think as if I am going to take away something from them. Of course, I am NOT. In fact,…

We can make “authentic” Boro, when we understand the “Stories” behind the word. It requires a process, not the result, to make it Japanese Boro. The word “Boro” isn’t only for the (in)Visible Mending.  ☆ The long article on Patreon was a good summary of this long story of “What…

All the links including resources and Patreon can be found on the link from our profile. Thank you. – Thanks to a big interest in Sashiko, yes, I come across the haters occasionally. They call me “arrogant”, “over-reacting”, “intimidating”, and blah blah. I don’t like haters. However, I don’t care…

I don’t feel your writing is confusing. I feel confident that you do not intend to confuse anyone. Your writing requires the reader to think and some people do not wish to think. I enjoy thinking about the issues you pose. 🙏

    プロではなく職人ならしっくりくるけど、、プロだと私も違和感を感じます。意味合いは同じな気もするのですが、、難しいですね。
