When I received this message, I felt like a hummer hit my head. Probably, this is “it”. This may be why I work so hard to communicate the importance of “respecting the Japanese culture” behind it.

A practice (ritual/custom) often carries the cultural aspect (who we are). The culture changes overtime. No one practices Sashiko for their survival anymore, although Sashiko originated to survive in poverty. However, regardless of the change we see today, I would like to protect Sashiko as a practice for Japanese to remind them who they are (when they need), and a practice for non-Japanese to learn what the Japanese are like. I have to dig into this feeling, but I feel good that I may find a piece of well-explaining the Sashiko I would like to pass down.

昨日書いた事が今も頭に残っています。刺し子をしていると日本を思い出す。日本の地を7年近く踏めていない僕が感じる日本との繋がりが刺し子だとしたら、その刺し子を「よくわからないアート」に塗り替えられてしまうのには、そりゃ反発心を持つな……と。

僕の刺し子への好みは極端です。なので、違和感を感じる刺し子も「日本の刺し子」の中には沢山あります。でも、「嫌悪感」を感じる刺し子は、日本語で紹介されている画像の中では一つもありません。嫌だなと思った事すらない。（「おりょ？」と思うことはあるけれど、個人的には違和感は悪い感覚じゃないので）。
