HEEELP! I am confused. It is NOT my intention to spread the wrong information. Please help. Is it WORSE to wear a DIY Fabric mask than nothing (No mask)? We all should follow the precaution. I am NOT encouraging you to go outside with this mask. Keep washing hands & staying home & keeping the social distance. However, what if I would like to take care of my family who is coughing with possible positive? Is wearing a DIY fabric mask is “worse” than nothing?
☆
This mask is NOT a medical solution. If we can have plenty of N95, this mask is a fashion item.
☆
My confusion is simple. “Is it worse to wear a DIY mask than wearing no Mask?” even after following the precaution & handing procedure? Thanks to some medical professionals who follow this account, I am learning something new here. However, if the statement is true, then a lot of people are misunderstanding including myself. ☆
I am still NOT convinced that wearing nothing (& receiving cough directly) is better than wearing a DIY fabric mask. Those professionals probably gave me a kind advice to not to depend on the fabric mask while sacrificing the other precautions. If that is the case, I would need to advocate the importance of following the precautions more & I would like to ask them to read what I write before commenting. I keep saying this is NOT a medical solution. I am confused because of the sentence – “Nothing (No wearing mask) is better than this mask.”
☆
Side note. As a Japanese, my biggest fear is giving the virus to others, not receiving the virus. For that purpose, if a case happens that I cannot avoid the social distance, I would wear the mask so I will not sprash my droplet. That’s a good reason why many Japanese wear the fabric masks. Of course, after washing & proper preparation. Of course, only because we cannot get N95. ☆
Please share your knowledge. I do not want to spread the misunderstanding. As you know, I want to be always sincere & honest. I really appreciate those professionals who gave me an opportunity to think & thank them for the front-line work now!
☆

[Personal (Atsushi’s) Note]. I wanted to be someone else. I wished to be someone who could “change” the world by big innovations. At some point of my life, however, I realize I wasn’t qualified to be someone who I was longing for. I once hated Sashiko because it seems to…

I do not need to have a fancy meal. I just want to be able to buy Seasonal Fruits without checking the price tag. I do not want to drive a luxury car. I just want to let dealers handle the maintenance instead of shop around for the cheaper options….

This “Boro To Be” Jacket is one of the Jackets exhibited in Kaunas – the event I mentioned in the previous post. There are so many types of interpretation about Boro. One thing I can say is that Boro is NOT a word for Colorful Patchwork. It can be colorful…

In my understanding, wearing a mask is worse not because of the mask’s effect but because of the psychological effect – for example people with the mask will think they are safe, so they will take more risks (that is what they saw with people wearing latex gloves to the supermarket, they have gloves so they touch everything). Another reason why it would be worse is if people use them wrongly – do not change and wash them enough, and touch their face when taking it off and putting it on. And the final reason I think is if everyone wears a mask (because if lots of people are wearing masks, even fabric masks, everyone else will want to wear masks too, even disposable ones), there will not be enough for medical personnelle. Also, before this year, Asian people in western countries were told not to wear masks because it would make other people worry. (I am not a medical person, just studying psychology, so that’s the side I know more about)

At this point, for a lot of people, this is all they can get. THAT is better than nothing, though of course it can’t be 100% assured.
Many hospitals have asked for masks like this, so it’s okay to share this info! Please don’t let people make you feel badly. 💕🙏

The masks are useless at least. From my point of view, they even send the wrong sign. People are not secure nor are they safe from getting infected by others. Oftentimes, such a mask ‘replaces’ other hygiene related precautions, which makes it somehow even more dangerous. Socially, seeing all these “silenced” faces makes me feel utterly weird.

Hi I I am Tiziana and I live in Milan. As you will know here we are in a very strict quarantine. Unfortunately, the fabric masks have a very large texture and allow viruses to pass through. the best masks are FFP3 o n 95 .But experts say it’s best to keep a safe distance. But unlike us Italians, by culture you already have the rules in mind to avoid spreading the virus. I hope this emergency will end soon, with as few victims as possible.

I’m hearing about a lining-type fabric, possibly used for embroidery?, which offers additional protection when layered inside a homemade mask. Would love more specific info on that (understanding it’s not medical grade).

It can work a little but may also create a breeding ground if moist. I am a professor of nursing and am@writing a research paper on this. If you need to care for someone with a respiratory disease and cannot get an effective well fitting mask then use it. Otherwise no. N95 should be saved for frontline health workers who are dying because they cannot get the right equipment

@frasstronaut @sashi.co I am using a mask on my child, who doesn’t remember to cover their mouth when they cough. I used this as a reference: https://smartairfilters.com/en/blog/best-materials-make-diy-face-mask-virus/

Common sense seems to say something is better than nothing. Just because it’s not perfect doesn’t mean it’s not helpful. It at least helps keep you from touching your nose, mouth, etc. , right?
