Sashiko is getting popular with its design and simplicity. When Sashiko is considered as the art, many discussions of “Which color” and “What design” can be found. As a Sashiko stitcher, when I see a Sashiko piece, the first impression is not about the color or design – it is about “feels of textile”. My first impulse is “I would like to touch it!!”.

The Sashiko is ordinarily based on the usage. The design and color as Art are (were) secondary at the origin. I would like to keep making the Sashiko in which people not only admire for its beauty but ask for “touching”. I am very happy to start receiving some feedback from our customers who use our Sashiko thread. Yes, when we use the appropriate Sashiko thread, it is an inevitable reaction to start caring for the “feeling”. ☆

作品の写真を見た時、刺し子糸を使って刺し子をしている人であれば、当たり前のように感じる想いがあります。それは……、「触りたいっ！」という衝動的な願い。刺し子がされていればいるほど、布には独特の感触が出てきます。それを知っているから、どうしても触れたくなります。実際に直接見るのもそうですが、やっぱり触ってみたい。アートになりきれないと思うのは、展示グラスの向こう側にある作品は、その「触れる」という選択肢を奪ってしまっているから。勿論、それは仕方のないことなんだろうけれど。（そういう意味で、アミューズの襤褸ミュージアムは本当に素晴らしかったです。）

刺し子がデザインとして認識され、色や形、アートや表現方法として世に認識されてきました。とても良いことです。ただ、刺し子を実際にする一人として、色やデザインだけでなく、触りたいと思ってもらえるような刺し子。使うことを前提とした刺し子。肌触り。触れる感覚を考えた刺し子をしていきたいんです。その第一歩が、「刺し子に適した糸を使うこと」であり、「刺し子に適した糸を使ってもらうこと」を伝え続けることだと思っています。一目刺しも、こういう「プクっ」とした針目が好きです。なんか、フクフクしてきません？これ、使うと落ち着いてくるんですよ。ほんと不思議。
