Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

We are a duo of mother and son, with supports from many friends. “SashiCo” is a project name of my mother’s Sashiko activities, and “Upcycle Stitches” is the name of Atsushi’s company (legal entity) in the US. It is our hope to share the philosophy of Sashiko. Keiko isn’t good at verbalizing herself, and I am here for her, and for myself – to learn & share the mindset of Sashiko we believe in. ☆
I learn a lot from Sashiko & Boro dealers I came across – and many do such a fantastic job. I keep saying I am not good at it… but I will try my best to stand up (break out of my shell) in promoting the items we sell. But not here @Sashi.Co, in @upcyclestitches. Your feedback, advice, and pretty much any possible way to improve me would be appreciated there. I will spend a bit more time in “marketing” what we make – like these swatches. I want to be a good dealer. I am also a maker (Sashiko stitcher). I believe I can provide an interesting perspective. ☆ –

I am glad that the previous analogy of Tourism (being a Guest) clarifies my message well. Being a Guest doesn’t question one’s ability. It is just a “status” of one’s commitment. I really want you to enjoy Sashiko – and the most delicious part of Sashiko is missing now in…

As I often share, Teaching comes with great responsibility. No need for this pressure of responsibility when we just enjoy it. I don’t want you to worry about it too much when you enjoy Sashiko. However, please be noted that there is equally important responsibility like “Teaching” for everyone, you…

Happy New Year! The first 3 days in the New Year are quite important in Japanese Culture. As I was raised surrounded by some “old-fashioned” artisans, I still carry some rituals. For example, it was not recommended to “stitch” until the end of Jan.3rd. Some even “prohibited” it. Instead, they…
