Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

atsushijp, 2019年12月13日

So I say, Sashiko is not only about the result. It is about the process. When I decided to share the Sashiko we practice, I ponder how to deliver this message, “Sashiko as a process”. What we see in today’s society is pretty much all “result”. We do not observe how an item is made. Editing, Photoshop, packaging, and marketing. I understand the importance of an attractive appearance. ☆
Showing a process may influence the culture. We all spend so much energy to “protect” the secret from others, especially if the secret brings us the benefit. It may be wise to hide… instead of share, if one’s goal is to keep the business. However, again, my goal is to pass down the Sashiko we practice. Therefore, I broadcast the unedited and unmodified stitching as a live-streaming. Anyone can watch me stitching while I stitch. No hiding or no editing to make myself look better. My commitment to Sashiko – not a flash trend. As of Dec.2019, I am working on the denim to have similar Asanoha like the photo shows. The Sashiko denim on the photo is done by my student (friend). Now, it is my time to stitch (I got a bit competitive. lol).

Witnessing a person realize the “rhythm of Unshin” in Sashiko stitching is the most rewarding moment in sharing the Sashiko. In 2016, I didn’t know what to share because everything about Sashiko was so ordinary for me. After studying for a few years in teaching the in-person workshops & developing…

“Why do you call your stitching Sashiko?” ☆ The purpose of the question is not questioning (nor accusing) what a person does. I just wanted to see if the person would think: “I call my stitching Sashiko because I like Sashiko!” In the last posts, I may have made you…

This is awesome. Thank you for sharing your passion. The first time I ever learned of sashiko was through one of your posts and now I upcycle my clothes using sashiko as I learned from your youtube videos using thread from @upcyclestitches. I can’t fully express how refreshing it is to have found you. Thank you. Please continue to post your process.
