Sashiko may be a new trendy word for you. However, please know that there are people behind the word, the people who spend(t) their lives in this culture. ☆
“I am just using the word of Sashiko. I am not here to debate” is already a sign of ignorance. Those people always reply to me, “I appreciate your thoughts”, when I ask why they use the word Sashiko. It is not my thought. It is an action to protect (respect) my origin.
☆
Again. When you read this, you may worry if you are disrespectful to the culture. Don’t worry. You are not offending me or being disrespectful. What I am asking is quite simple – to care for the people who relate to Sashiko & respect the Japaneseness behind the Sashiko. ☆
I never thought of myself speaking up for the Sashiko. Sashiko was never this big trend. A very few knew what Sashiko was. Today, I need to stand up to confront – although confronting is very far from the Japanese culture – I need to protect the origin where I am from.

A weekend of staying inside all day long with leaving TV on… I got a bit of fever and my girl was just from the recovery (which I probably receive from her…) so we just stayed and took a small peek into a small box of Keiko’s Sashiko swatches. Unlike…

Shippou, one of the most beautiful and symbolic patterns in Sashiko, holds layers of meaning—just as learning the art itself holds deeper lessons beyond stitches. This March 2025, in Stuart, FL, I will be offering a special 3-Day Sashiko Workshop, beginning with the foundation of the craft, much like understanding…

Sashiko is simple. This is a true statement. However, from a teaching perspective, there is a big difference between me saying it & someone non-Japanese saying it even if the statement itself is the exact same. I welcome everyone to enjoy Sashiko. As much as I appreciate the worries &…

I support what you are doing. More people should be doing that to protect the origin of a lot of things. It is very important to show respect. Thanks for sharing❣️
