Sashiko is a process of caring for someone by stitching. “Caring” doesn’t have to be “Love”. Even the “Hate” is a sign of “Caring”. What is the opposite of Caring? “Ignorance”. Therefore, I want you to care for things behind a matter, practice, and culture. I do not consider myself a “teacher” 100% yet, therefore, I prefer to call the students as “friends”. I am so happy to meet those friends who can share the value of Sashiko – to enjoy the same journey together.

The workshop in 2019 (Planned. In-Person) is completed. I am happy to offer the workshop in Lewisburg PA or share the technique online. I will focus on sharing the photos, items, and stories more toward the holiday seasons. ☆

Ok. I made a video. I get feedback with “quick reading”. Wording Matters. Above said, I wrote an article “I encourage you to call it Sashiko”. Please read what I write with mindfulness. I never said I am offended by someone’s “Sashiko” stitching, and will never think I own Sashiko….

I encountered a photo on FB comparing the Sashiko Thread (it happens to be Ours & Embroidery Floss) with a very close look. It reminded me of my youth asking my artisans why we use a very specific type of thread. They didn’t give me an answer, but I wanted…

Mindful Reading and Quick Reading. ☆ I may have found the missing link regarding the previous unfortunate discussion. The key-word is Mindful Reading. It became SO LONG writing so it would be great if you could check the website. A link from our profile, or copy and paste the actual…

I’m doing Sashiko too. It allows me to focus on myself first and gift my piece of work to someone else. That’s care in two ways! Looking forward to your pictures

Thank you for sharing this thought- I was making fun of myself for taking on the sashiko project of reviving the well- loved, but tattered, shirt of my partner- but that is a mistake because there is value in the process. The opposite of caring is ignorance- I will ponder that when I get back to my mending this evening.

In English I would say the word is “indifference” that is the opposite of “caring”. Thank you for you work and for your thoughts. 💙
