I welcome and enjoy a variety of interpretations of Sashiko. In addition to that, let me rephrase this: the technique makes a big difference. Speed isn’t the priority, but we wouldn’t be proud of the slowness in stitching. Hand-stitching is slow (in comparison to machine), yet we enjoy the speed as well. I wouldn’t want to spend more than a day to stitch the size of this swatch. (In the video, I finished it in 2 hours – Live archive available).
☆
So, technique matters. Without Unshin technique (rhythmical stitching), I don’t think one can feel the true fun of Sashiko. It is NOT difficult at all to learn Unshin. Many students that I had shared proven how good they can be. It is the matter of “first step” like how to ride a bicycle: Better and easy to learn with guidance. Some may learn it by just watching what I do, but it will be most efficient to get a good support from me – you will learn what we enjoy, and also will be supporting our activities. The workshop is available online as well. I will deliver the same experience. Also, we have workshop in NJ in October, in the Central PA, and in NYC, and in Austin TX 2020. Many people enjoy the “rhythm with speed” after taking the workshop.

Some of these small porch bag will be available online. I haven’t decided which… but selecting the one to send to the US is already a fun process. 2017-09-23 21:53:27 Source

“Is Sashiko Sustainable Fashion?” It is a very good question. When I had a talk in FIT, a bright student asked me if Sashiko can be a solution to the pollution in Fashion. Well, it is(was) too big of an issue to discuss as a mere Sashiko artisan. I couldn’t…

My sashiko style has totally changed after your online workshop. It gave me not only speed but also confidence, freedom and joy of sashiko. I really appreciate to Atsushi with his 30 years experience.

Thank you for posting your videos. I just started learning about sashiko in the last few months and have been practicing it for fun and then for gifts for friends and family. Because I had only seen pictures of the patterns and stitching and a general guide on how to do the actual stitching, I wasn’t sewing it in the traditional way. But then after seeing some of your videos, I was able to start stitching in the traditional style and the stitching really started to “click” for me.
