Please do not fear the word of “tradition” or “rule” when you enjoy Sashiko. I would rather you try Sashiko first than thinking about it too much. After all, it is just a form of hand-stitching. However, when you decide to call your work Sashiko after you get comfortable in Stitching, then please learn what Sashiko is for the Japanese people. If you consider yourself “Sashiko teacher” or “Sashiko Artist”, then please try to learn the Japanese culture, like language and philosophy (mindset) as well. When “Sashiko” is disconnected from “Japanese-ness”, then it will lose the core value of Sashiko.

実は、日本語でこのアカウントをフォローして下さっている方に願いを込めて、毎日の投稿をしています。刺し子の宣伝というよりは、「公平な目線で」（主に）僕の言動を見て居てほしくて。過去は変えられませんが、人は過去（の記憶）を書き換えられます。今年に言っている事と2040年に言っている事は、もしかしたら違うかもしれない。でも、日々主観で見ている僕は、その違いがわからないのです。日々の変化が微量過ぎて。だからこそ文章を残して、それを客観的に見て頂くことで、「刺し子とはなんぞや」を担保したいと思っているのです。

なので、主張がズレてきたら突っ込み下さい。本人が気づいてない場合がある（笑）それをお伝えした上で、意図的に少し意見を変えます。これまでに「刺し子は自由だ！（ぶっちゃけなんでもあり）」的な意見を書いたり言ったりしたことがあるのですが、今後は「日本らしさから切り離されたものは刺し子と認めない」と立ち位置を変えようと思います。「当たり前じゃん」と思われる方。非日本語圏では、刺し子という言葉だけで先生を名乗る人もいて（一昔前はそれでも良いかぁと思っていたのですが）、本藍染をされている方の文章を拝読する機会があって、僕の意見を少し狭めることにしました。誰でも刺し子は楽しめるし、誰でも先生を名乗っていいのです。ただ、「刺し子は日本的な要素がある」という事すら無視する人は、やっぱり刺し子って呼んでほしくないなぁと。

I always keep in mind what sashiko is and the history and tradition behind it.
I read and learn so mutch as i can find about Japan and ther way of live.
Maybe i am a little out of the box with what i do, but i would like to receive a thought about it from you.

I’m learning more and more these last few years about the philosophy and culture, but it’s so tied to the language that I am now learning that too, slowly. Im not comfortable calling myself a “teacher” or anything like that until a certain point- and i hope that day will come, but for now i’m a student, especially for Japanese.

I admire your skills and also respect traditions of our ancestors in Poland😁 My granma was a very intensive mender and stitcher. She used to mend all her kitchen clothes, especially small rags… I still keep some of them as the family remembrances. Greetings from Poland💝 You make wonderful job with your posts.
