I tell my daughter to “share” her toys in the socializing setting. My mother probably taught me the same thing. In a process of being an adult, how do we forget the principal of “harmony” – share? ☆
In my youth, I tried to be the one who can take. Take money, admiration, respect, status… and the one taking happiness. In order to achieve my goal, I wouldn’t care to take “it” from others. Later on, I realize “taking” wouldn’t bring me happiness. Then, I shifted my priority to “give”. I spent a good amount of time in the phasing of “give”, but it has been so difficult to balance who I am and what I do in the “giving” condition. There are some “bad” people out there to take advantage of. As a result, I am here to “share”. Not to take what you have, or give you what I have completely – I am here to share. A favorite phrase – “Happiness is not something we take (obtain) or give (away) – it is something we realize that we have.”
☆
Mindfulness in Sashiko is similar. What is your purpose of Sashiko stitching? My (primary) purpose of Sashiko is to share what I have. Capitalism and Sharing do not go well together? Well, at least, all hand-stitched Boro and high quality industrial designed chair look good together. Let’s not give up our ability.
☆

I guess I am angry at the “easiness” of those who think they know “Sashiko”. As I have been saying, I am quite open to the Cultural Appropriation in Sashiko. Anyone can call their stitching Sashiko when they try to respect the Japanese culture behind it. Here, keyword is “respect”….

Our new friend (from Sashiko Workshop) Loving a Special Sashiko Bag. Her beautiful smile after I handed an item we made. It is so powerful to learn that what we do can make someone smile. In my childhood, well more accurately “until 2011”, I did not realize the power of…
