We have another priority over “business” – family. Sashiko was the ordinary custom for the Japanese to care someone they had (like family). So, if I sacrifice my family for achieving my goal (to share the culture of Sashiko), it lose the sense of whole purpose. Family comes first. The believe comes second. It is probably not the standard of business, but we respect ourselves for that.

Speaking of family, we recently adopted a cat. I realize why my Japanese family didn’t have cats when I was a child (we had dogs). Sashiko and Cat doesn’t go well together :D. The cat sharp nail can pick the Sashiko stitches, and it make a bit of mess. My Sashiko denim (whole stitched) has a bit of damage already. Well, it is okay since I can fix it. Kasane can function as knots. Sashiko stitching become part of fabric over years so it won’t get off so easily from the fabric. Yet, a cat nail picking the thread on the denim was a bit of “trouble” I didn’t know. Oh, don’t let a cat play with the thread. It will be one expensive thread ball.

Finally… I am updating the item listing on the Online Store. I planned to do so in late spring… and spent so much time in explaining, defending, and sharing what Sashiko is to us. In 2019, I did a pretty bad job in terms of sales & marketing, but I…

It was a quite wild month, March 2024. We went through several big decisions in life, and I feel positive that we made good decisions. We all fear the “Changes”. Therefore, it is very challenging to change when we “try” to change it. An effective way to change oneself is…

I often receive a question on “What is a good fabric for Boro?”. Unfortunately, I don’t have the answer to satisfy what they are asking as our understanding of “Boro” is most likely different. However, I do have some recommendations that “can result in” Boro – which we call “Kofu…

I appreciate a lot how you think about the little and the big things of life and stitching. You connect in a very personal way consciousness, tradition, philosophy and practice.
