Boro acquires its name & value as the art. It may be valuable because of its age

atsushijp, 2018年12月7日

Boro acquires its name & value as the art. It may be valuable because of its age and the preservation form that people passed down. At the same time, I believe, the core concept of Boro is “Appreciation to the fabric” and “A pride to be beautiful even in the limited resource”.
☆
The boro in a good form is valuable. It means that there are many “Boto to be” pieces around. The core of our activities is to “Sashiko” together to make the “fresh Boro.” Yes. It sounds strange, but making the Boro with the core concept is what we would like to do, like the Jacket I will wear on the workshop tomorrow.
☆
I will bring some “fresh Boros” that we created to the Pop-Up Event, 75 Collective. I may be in the workshop, but stop by & take a look at our Boro, Sashiko, and other very beautiful & conscious fashion items. @the75collective ☆

We can do A LOT with our own hands – and all I am doing is to share the possibility. Sashiko isn’t about making “one perfect or Imperfect” stitches. When we focus on only the “result”, we won’t get this much stitching. Then, how? That’s what I teach, and the…

Well. Sorry for non-Sashiko topic again. It keeps bugging me. I believe this relates to Sashiko in a deeper level. I watched several Greta’s speech. I agree with what she advocates. We need to be serious with the environmental issue. One thing, however, there is one thing I felt “strange”….

Do you feel “fear” when I write something about Sashiko (& possibly about Cultural Appropriation)? I am aware that I am privileged in Sashiko – a native Japanese who was born in the Sasiko family with support from artisans with 35+ years of experience. Please understand that my goal is…
